Bill spent almost his entire life at Giant's Castle. He began his working career as a ranger there in 1946. After a spell at Royal Natal National Park running a trout hatchery he returned to Giant's Castle as warden in 1956. This history was conceived shortly afterwards and its writing spanned 35 years.
