Lucy Bean takes the reader back more than a decade in this moving book to the war days when SAWAS did so much for visiting troops to this country but it is more than that, for the author was the confident of Cabinet Ministers. Ouma Smuts was a close friend and her story is largely autobiographical. Many anecdotes of famous people enliven what will prove to many readers an absorbing volume.
