C.F. Tunnicliffe R.A. 1901-1979 was one of the great bird and nature artists of the 20th Century. He lived most of his life and did most of his work where he loved his work, in Maslltraeth on Anglesley, Wales.
This book of his sketches will amaze people who like this art or like to see and understand what it takes to be a great artist. As much as an excellent book on his art; it is really his personal sketches and the notes he has written on them.
If you are an aspiring or seasoned artist and interested in drawing birds; you'd be hard pressed to find any book as good to learn from.
This book is so good that at the time it was first published in 1979 ,that Nicholas Hammond of The Royal Society for the Preservation of Birds, said ; "One would like to think that the British public might show its good judgement by ensuring that "A Sketchbook of Birds" stays in the bestsellers' lists for several years to come". And the Daily Mail called it "One of the best bird books ever published". It is not surprising that this book has been reprinted several times since it was first published.
The sketches reproduced in this book are taken from seventeen sketchbooks filled by the artist between 1934 and 1962.Most of the sketches were made at two locations; the island of Anglesey, where Tunncliffe lived from 1947 until his death in 1979,and the country near Macclesfield in Chesire, where he spent the first twenty-odd years of his life, and frequently re-visited. In most cases there are copious notes by the artist on his sketches.
His artwork has appeared on many, many books and publications. The sketches are presented in 5 Sections: I-Seabirds, II-Waders, III-Geese, Ducks & Swans, IV-Birds of Prey, and V-Miscellaneous Birds.

Real times since first published. the sketches reproduced in this bio.
