It begins with the basics of the style, tools and materials, then moves on to tutorials on the individual elements of a character: eyes, hair, hands, clothing, accessories, lighting and colour.

The book is arranged in three sections, Basic Tutorials, Creation and Projects from the Masters. Creation shows how raw ideas become finished comics, while the closing projects combine the earlier lessons into complete characters of all ages, from children to adults. It is richly illustrated, with around 140 colour illustrations.

A useful used collectible book for those interested in the manga boom of the mid-2000s and in the British artists who helped teach the style to a Western audience.

Author Profile: Sweatdrop Studios

Sweatdrop Studios is a Cambridge-based collective of artists who produce manga comics, described in contemporary sources as a group of 17 creators.
